Half Day/ Evening Wildlife Paddle

A 3 hour paddle winding through narrow creeks and around islands on the beautiful Kyle of Sutherland. This relaxed paddle give us a unique perspective of the area and greater chances of spotting the local wildlife.  We’ve spotted Sika Deer, Otters, Pine Marten, Seals  and a whole variety of birds including Osprey, Barn Owl and White Tailed Sea Eagle on previous outings. We are often surrounded by leaping salmon too! We will stop for a cuppa and some home baking on Picnic Island.
You choose the time to suit you and we are happy to run the tours in the early morning or late evening to increase our chances of seeing the wildlife.

Number of people:
Minimum of 2 people per tour. Suitable for beginners.
Cost :
£45 adult (under 16 year olds £30)

Kyle Canoe trip: a slow food ….slow adventure.
Since April 2017 we have been  offering guided open canoe journeys down the sheltered waters of the Kyle of Sutherland (pictured opposite). This sheltered journey on a slow moving river in stunning surroundings is perfectly suited to those new to the pleasures of open canoes and those with previous experience. Ian is a qualified canoe coach and leader and has been canoeing this stretch of water, a stones throw from his home, for years.  This 5 hour journey will go through country rich in wildlife, wind around wooded islands and through narrow creeks and pass below the beautiful Carbisdale Castle.

We break the leisurely canoe journey with a stop for a home made picnic lunch prepared by Ian's wife, Ann. This includes home made soup and hand made sourdough bread along with cheeses, meats and smoked fish from artisan local producers and salad from our organic garden. Home baking will also feature with a variety of cakes and biscuits on offer. We will also boil up the Kelly Kettle for some tea or fresh coffee or hot chocolate for the bairns!
We are very passionate about this aspect of our trips and are keen to highlight the wonderful produce made in the local area (see Our Food page for further information). We can cater for most dietary preferences too,  if you let us know in advance.

Number of people:
Minimum of 2 people per tour, maximum of 7.
Cost :
£90 per person (under 16 years £75 ).
£75 per person (under 16 years £45) without picnic lunch.

Overnight Island Camps
We introduced our overnight island camps in 2018. These are a great antidote to our hectic lives and will provide the perfect way to unwind.
Starting in the late afternoon, we will paddle through hidden creeks and around wooded islands to eventually land on a large island in the middle of the river. There we will set up camp with our hammocks and tarps, cook a meal on a campfire and relax to the sounds of the river and the wildlife around us.  A good nights sleep will be sure to follow and then we will have breakfast to the sound of the dawn chorus and paddle back to our starting point.
We will follow No Trace principles and leave absolutely no sign of our passage except some flattened grass.
Number of people:
Minimum of 2 people per tour, maximum of 5. Suitable for beginners.
Cost :
£90 adult (under 16 year olds £75)

Loch Laxford seafood special.

This is a really special place on the North west coast of Sutherland. A very sheltered sea loch, dotted with islands and hidden channels to explore. The mountains of Ben Stack and Arkle form the backdrop.  We combine this trip with a cook out on one of the islands. We supply a selection of locally sourced seafood which we cook over an open fire. This will be accompanied with our home baked sour dough bread and oatcakes, organic salad leaves from our garden and followed by some of Ann's lovely home baking and fresh coffee. This adventure will last long in the memory.

The duration of the trip, including time cooking lunch, is 6 hours.

Number of people:
Minimum of 2 people per tour, maximum of 5.

Cost :
£120 adult (under 16 year olds £90)
