Open canoe trips in Sutherland.
About Go Wild Highlands
Go Wild Highlands is a small family run outdoor activities and tour guide business. The team comprises of husband and wife Ian and Ann Paterson and began trading in 2016 after Ian left his post as Countryside Ranger for East Sutherland, a post he had held for 17 years.
Ian's CV is a veritable Who's Who of Scottish conservation, having previously worked with the Scottish Wildlife Trust, The National Trust for Scotland, Nature Conservancy Council, Aigas Field Centre, Buccleuch Estates and for 17 years with the Highland Council Rangers.
Ian is a qualified mountain leader and canoe leader, a canoe coach, an archery instructor, is first aid trained and holds a BSc in Geology. When not working, he climbs the Scottish mountains, canoes Scotland's rivers and lochs, attempts to grow vegetables in the difficult environment of Sutherland and likes to crash about noisily with his friends in a rock band.
Ann's behind the scenes contribution is perhaps the most important one- she feeds our guests! Ann is passionate about sourcing the produce she uses for our lunches as locally as possible. Ann uses organic produce as much as she can. Nearly all of this comes from suppliers within a 50 mile radius of our home and some from as close as Ian's garden. When not producing fabulous soups and baking for our trips, Ann also works part time as an assistant ecologist with an environmental organisation.
Ann has a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Environmental Science. an MSc in Ecology, loves cooking for friends, family and guests and sharing discovering Scotland with Ian on bikes, canoe or foot.
